Akha Christian Ministries
OUR MINISTRIES
Akha Christian Ministries provides support for Christian Missions in the Mekong Quadrangle, including Akha Churches in Thailand (ACT), that present the Good News of Jesus Christ to the Akha People and show God's love in words and action in the Akha Community.
Pastoral Training
The Akha Training Centre in Maekorn near Chiang Rai, Thailand opened in 1992. Here Akha Christian pastors and leaders are trained using curricula for focused study in discipleship and for serving as a liason between various Akha Christian groups.
Missionary Services
ACT leads an Akha worship service every Sunday and oversees the center for the production of Akha literature. Bibles, hymn books, tapes and the Jesus Film in the Akha language are all available at the Akha Centre. ACT serves 58 Christian villages in Thailand and other Christian communities in Asia, such as South Korea. Pastoral leaders conduct missions monthly to far flung villages in the Mekong Quadrangle.
Church Development
Twenty (20) individual churches are self-supporting and involved in reaching out to others in Thailand. ACT’s vision is to effectively reach out to their own people living in China, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam by: recruiting workers to facilitate church planting movements; partnering with existing churches in Thailand and Myanmar; and partnering with others working with the Akha people.
Women's Bible Conference
Akha women are the backbone of the church. Akha Christian women contribute to the finances of ACT in that they always put aside one cup of rice for financing the church, when they cook rice. A very simple way of giving but it is helping the church tremendously. They also make shoulderbags to sell and use the money for church ministry.
Youth Conference and Hostel
A large youth hostel for school children is located next to the Akha Training Centre where children are fed and comfortably housed. Students are involved in Bible training and Sunday School.
Drug Rehabilitation
The Mekong Quadrangle was once a major opium-producing area overlapping the borders of Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam that was known as the "Golden Triangle." Opium use in some Akha villages is high. Missionaries work with opium addicts to rehabiltate them.
